The Rev. Dr. Oswald C.J. Hoffmann, long-time speaker of The Lutheran Hour, died yesterday at age 91.

To his credit, The Lutheran Hour's reach and influence spread under his watch. In many things, his voice was considered the voice of The Lutheran Church — Missouri Synod by many within and without the LCMS.
In other matters, especially regarding some of his theological and church political positions, "De mortuis nil nisi bonum dicendum est" — until we've reached a more appropriate time. ¶ 11:39 |

We speak well of the dead not only because it is rude not to, because it matters not whether they were good or not since they are dead, but because we beleive that those who die in Christ are truly as good as He is, that there is nothing of the old Adam left in them.
Still, as you say, there is an appropriate time to speak of wrong that was done while in this living death. We must speak of these things to learn from them. We rightly condemn the sinful actions of the sainted King David, even though we speak well of him. Now is not the appropriate time. But there is one and it is not far away.
