Martin Luther Is 524
10 November AD 1483
After celebrating the birth of the Second Martin, we immediately turn to the natal anniversary of of the original Martin. Yes, on this date in 1483, a baby boy was born in the Saxon town of Eisleben to Hans and Margarette Luther. On the morrow, they would have the child baptized and given the name of that day's saint, Martin of Tours.
The rest, as they say, was history, of which you can read a bit more at the commemoration of his death.
If you celebrate the day with (German chocolate) cake and candles, I suggest baking a couple extra in order to hold all the lights. Then leave a window open so as not to deplete the oxygen supply. Finally, you might also want to contact the local fire marshal.

As a former ELCA member who saw his pastor get fired because he wouldn't stop telling the truth about abortion, homosexuality, etc, I have to say, Martin Luther is rolling over in his grave.
The "reformation" is a bust, and has only helped to make things worse. God picked a devil, that is, Judas, so why should corruption through the ages surprise us.
God bless Martin on the points he was right, but God forgive him on those he was wrong. The world would have been better off without him, Calvin, and Zwillig.

Wow, anonymous.
I wouldn't lay the false disciplining of a faithful pastor at the feet of the Reformation. A lot has happened in these last 500 years. People have used the disconnection from the authority of the Pope to promote all sorts of false doctrine. That can't all be blamed on the Council of Trent which declared Luther and his doctrine anathema.
The Reformation itself is not nearly as worthy of scorn as the fact that we needed one.
