The Shack or a Mansion?
An In-depth Review of the Pop Christian Novel
Thanks to Jim Pierce of Confessional's Bytes, the Luther Library has a thorough theological review of the best selling "Christian" fiction book The Shack. If you haven't read — or even heard about it — Pierce examines the author's theological POV and likely agenda.
Among other findings, Pierce details reasons why Young's beliefs are outside orthodox Christianity. For instance, The Shack's "Trinity" is modalistic and is further tainted with patripassianism. In Young's spiritualistic psychodrama, the Father (Papa) spends much of "his" time in the persona of a woman while his Jesus is forever limited by his "incarnation" to where he can never exercise his divinity.
I've started reading the copy of The Shack lent to me by someone else. So far, I pretty much agree with Pierce's evaluation. And unlike him, I didn't need to shell out my own money in support of a false teacher who misleads Christ's Church.
Even if you don't read the book, read the review at Luther Library or at Confessional's Bytes, so you're prepared when family, friends, and fellow church members start gushing over the warm feelings spilling out from The Shack.
Bottom line, why would you want to stay in a shack when Jesus promises you a mansion?
