The Third Name's the Charm
According to The Loft, a blog by Bobby Eberle at GOPUSA, Lee County Sheriff Mike Scott must deal with the FBI and the U.S. Office of Special Counsel after warming up the crowd at a Sarah Palin rally in Estero, Florida on Monday 6 October. Citing ABC News, Eberle wrote, "Sheriff Scott stepped to the podium and said, 'On November 4, let's leave Barack Hussein Obama wondering what happened.'"
Evidently, using the Democratic presidential candidate's middle name isn't something we're supposed to do. The News-Press, a Southwest Florida publication, carried the sheriff's initial response to those upset with his including "Hussein" in speaking about Barack Obama: "'I absolutely, unequivocally don’t regret saying it,' Scott said. 'In order to be a speaker at this event, I had to give my full name — Michael Joseph Scott — to the Secret Service, even though I'm the sheriff of Lee County. So why would I apologize? Is there some kind of double standard here where I have to give my full name, but I can't use his?'"
Of course, it wasn't mentioning "Hussein" that brought the Feds down on Scott's head. Instead, he's being investigated for a possible violation of the Hatch Act, specifically that he was campaigning in uniform and on the clock. But as Eberle and others are wondering, would anyone have thought twice about the sheriff's presence, attire, or speech if only he'd merely said "Barack Obama"?
