Don't Blame Pachelbel ... or Me
It's not Johann Pachelbel's fault that I'm so down on his Canon in D. Nor is it that I'm a music snob (I know not enough about the art to do more than feign snobbishness). Rather, I dislike its ubiquitousness, especially among the "pop" classical stations and those who listen to them.
In my opinion, playing the Canon is akin to using the word "well" in conversation. If someone asks you how you are doing, it's perfectly fine to say, "I'm doing, well, thank you." However, one should not say, "Well, you know, when I got up today, it was like, well, I wasn't feeling so good, but, well, like after a good breakfast and a shower, I'm, well, doin' real good, dude."
In other words, "well" and the Canon in D both have their appropriate places and times. Either can enrich our lives when not mis- or over-used. Please use each correctly and sparingly, allowing all of us to appreciate their natural beauty.
However, if you can play guitar like this youngster, I'll cut you a little slack on the frequency:

Well, here's my thoughts...
I have loved that piece since discovering it in my late teens. I had it played at our wedding my a family of string musicians. I have watched both of my children play it on their own stringed instruments. Each time I hear it, it moves me. Watching that young boy play his version on the electric guitar brought tears to my eyes. I love rock and roll and I love classical music. His rendition was a perfect marriage of the two. Absolutely beautiful!
